Gary Harbaugh Obituary

Gary Lee Harbaugh, 90, of Cascade MD passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 3, 2026 at Meritus Medical Center surrounded by his family.

He was the son of the late Roland and Evelyn (McAfee) Harbaugh of Cascade MD.

In addition to his parents he was proceeded in death by his loving wife of 63 years Peggy Jane (Smith) Harbaugh, son Gary Lee Harbaugh Jr. and brother Dale Harbaugh.

He graduated from Smithsburg High School in 1953, leading him to an apprenticeship with Landis Tool Company in Waynesboro PA. His expertise entailed him traveling the United States and to countries such as Russia, England and Japan. He retired in 1999 after 45 years of dedication to spend time with family, especially his grandchildren.

He belonged to the AACA and the Early Ford V8 Club, winning multiple awards for his 1936 Ford Coupe. He was a member of the Cascade Sons of American Legion Post 239. Gary was a faithful servant of God at Christ Reformed UCC Church. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports and attended almost every game. During the NASCAR season you could always find him watching and attending races.

He is survived by his children, Karen Lantz, Donna Pryor, and David Harbaugh. Grandchildren; Teresa (Erik) Rowland, Clinton (Leanne) Lantz, Steven (Jess) Garde , Brandon Harbaugh. Great Grandchildren, Rylee, Zayden, Adalyn, Caroline, Arianna, Naomi, Cooper and Aspyn. His sister Carol Ann (Marty) Schorn, his Uncle Bob McAfee, sisters- in- law Bobbi Minnick and Patsy Mickley, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, 12:00pm at Christ Reformed UCC Cavetown Church, Cavetown MD, with Rev Kyle Powderly officiating.

Family will receive friends 2 hours before the service begins.

Memorial donations may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
