Gene Lewis Obituary

Gene Clarence Lewis passed from this life at Sinai hospital in Baltimore on Sunday, November 20, 2022. 

Born July 22, 1938, he was the son of the late Clarence W. Lewis and Irene A. Smith Lewis. 

Gene was a graduate of Middletown High School class of 1956 and spent most of his working years in construction.  He first worked with Green and Daley contractors in Hagerstown and then Morgan Keller in Smithsburg.  He ran his own small construction business for a period of time before becoming a Frederick County building inspector.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed several hunts in western states.  He and his wife enjoyed traveling throughout the states and patronizing casinos along the way.

He was a member of the National Rifle Association and Rocky Mt. Elk Foundation and a Life Member of Catoctin Fish and Game Protective Association and Wolfsville Fire Department, being one of the original members when the department was started. 

He is survived by his wife, Joyce and their two children, Gary Gene Lewis (wife Sharon Gibbs Lewis) and Shari Jean Lewis Kinna.  Four grandchildren, Brian Lewis, Ashleigh Kinna, Derek Rosensteel (Jillian), and Michael Lewis.  Two brothers, Paul W. Lewis (Sharon) and Gerald L. Lewis (Kathy), sister-in-law Karen Lewis, sister-in-law Patsy Wolfe (Sandy), and brother-in-law Dick Wolfe (Martha).  Also survived by many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his parents and brother Wayne C. Lewis.

The family will receive friends and family at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Wolfsville, MD beginning at 10 prior to the memorial service at 11 with interment in the adjoining cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to St. Marks Cemetery Fund, 12704 Wolfsville Road or the Wolfsville Volunteer Fire Co. 12464 Wolfsville Road.
