Gerald Lee Lewis passed from this life at home on April 29, 2024. He fought a long and painful battle with Parkinson's disease. Born July 5, 1947, he was the son of the late Clarence W. Lewis and Irene A. Smith Lewis. He is survived by his wife of 57 years Kathy (Huffer) Lewis and daughter, Amy Michelle Speck and her husband Larry, and grandson Daniel Lewis Speck and his wife Alexis. He is also survived by his brother Paul Lewis (Sharon), his brother-in-law Ronald Huffer (Zoanna), and sister-in-laws Karen Lewis and Joyce Lewis. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his brothers Wayne and Gene, and his brother-in-law John Demory. He was a graduate of Middletown High School class of 1965. He attended Columbia Business College of Hagerstown. Gerald spent most of his working years in construction. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force during the Vietnam conflict and served in Italy and with NSA. He retired as a building inspector for Frederick County. He was a life member of Wolfsville Fire Department, serving as the Treasurer for 32 years. He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Wolfsville, and a long-time volunteer of the Wolfsville Ruritan Club. He enjoyed fishing with his close friend Carolyn for trout, locally, and for steelheads in Salmon River, New York, and also on the Chesapeake Bay. A special thank you to Tammy Nalborczyk for helping with Gerald's care. The family appreciates the incredible Hospice staff who cared for Gerald in his last days.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 2, 2024, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at JL Davis Funeral Home, 12525 Bradbury Avenue, Smithsburg. The service will be held on Friday, May 3, 2024, at 10 am at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Wolfsville Road, with Pastor Eric Moser officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Frederick Health Hospice (1 Frederick Health Way, Frederick, Maryland 21701) or St. Mark's Lutheran Church (12704 Wolfsville Road, Smithsburg, MD 21783).
