Gertrude Lillian Poole Simmons, 97, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at Fahrney Keedy Memorial Home of Boonsboro, MD.
Born June 13, 1922 in Hagerstown, MD, she was the daughter of the late George William Poole, Sr. and Ada Katherine (Wolfel) Poole.
She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence P. “Blackie” Simmons, four brothers, Ernest F. Poole, Richard B. Poole, George W. Poole, Jr. and Harry A. Poole, Sr. and two sister, Anna R. Poole Miller and Margaret E. Poole Hossler.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
She graduated from Frederick High School and attended Frederick Community College and Hagerstown Community College.
She was employed for 30 years by Fairchild Aircraft, retiring in 1980.
She and her husband were active through the years in teaching square and round dancing.
She was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Hagerstown, MD.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
