Glenn Peterson Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Glenn Edward Peterson, 83, of Hagerstown, MD, who peacefully departed this life on December 28, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born on March 23, 1941, in Greensburg, MD, to George and Sarah Peterson, Glenn grew up in Smithsburg, where he attended Smithsburg schools and graduated in 1959. On June 19, 1965, Glenn married the love of his life, Carole Lou Sites. Together, they built a home filled with love, laughter, and treasured memories. They were blessed with two daughters, Cathy Miller (Donnie) and Beth Domenico (James), as well as six grandchildren: Erika Spinks (Garrett), DJ Miller, Morgan Lowman (Marshall), Megan Domenico, Logan Domenico, and Macyn Domenico, and one great-granddaughter, Parker Spinks. Glenn had a diverse and dedicated career, working for the Railroad, Victor Products, Frick Company, and Fort Ritchie, before retiring from the Federal Government at Site R in 1998. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1960 to 1964 and later continued his service as a member of the 167th Aerial Port from 1976 to 1991. After retirement, Glenn and Carole enjoyed traveling the country in their motorhome, forming cherished friendships along the way and spending winters in sunny Florida. An avid sports enthusiast, Glenn was a devoted fan of the Baltimore Orioles, the Ravens, and NASCAR, where he rooted passionately for his favorite driver, Rusty Wallace. He also enjoyed golfing and the camaraderie it brought. Glenn was a lifelong member of Christ Reformed UCC in Cavetown, MD, where he faithfully served as a Deacon, Elder, and choir member. His faith and commitment to his church community were central to his life. He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Carole, his daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchild, and numerous extended family members and friends. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Norma Jean Kelbaugh. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Viva Senior Living for the compassionate care provided to Glenn in his final days. Services will be held Monday, January 6, 2025, at 11:00am at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, 12525 Bradbury Ave. Smithsburg, MD, with Pastor Chuck Mackley officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown, MD. The family will receive friends Sunday, January 5, 2025, from 2-4pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Christ Reformed UCC in Cavetown, MD, in Glenn’s honor. Glenn will be deeply missed and forever remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His legacy of love and kindness lives on in the hearts of all who knew him.
