Gwendolyn Ridenour Obituary

Gwendolyn, A. “Flicker” Ridenour, 91, of Sabillasville, MD, went to be with the Lord on January 9, 2021 at St. Joseph’s Place in Emmitsburg, MD. Born May 22, 1929 at Foxville, MD, she was the daughter of the late Ward “Buck” Toms and Orpha Buhrman Toms. She was the loving wife of Clarence J. Ridenour whom she married in 1950. Clarence preceded her in death on December 5, 2013.Gwen was a graduate of Thurmont High School class of 1947. In her early years, she lived and worked in Baltimore, MD. She worked at Camp Ritchie as a nurse’s aide and Willard Turkey Farm. Later she worked as a caregiver for several families. She was a member of Germantown Church of God of Cascade, MD, for many years. She loved her church family. Gwen will be remembered as a loving devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who put the Lord and her family top priority. Gwen loved working in her flower beds, cooking, writing poetry – many that appeared in the Hagerstown Almanac. She sent many encouraging notes to family and friends. She loved eating out- her favorite was Chinese food. She hunted morel mushrooms util she was 88 years old. Gwen is survived by daughter, Vicki Lantz (Tony), son, Daryl Ridenour, grandson, Travis (Anjy) all of Sabillasville, MD, granddaughter, Leslie Willard of Hagerstown, MD, great-granddaughter, Tiffany Lantz (Nathan) of Cascade, MD, sister, Shirley West of Smithsburg, MD, and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. Gwen was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Roxanne Naugle and her husband Wayne, sisters, Jean Kapsos, Pauline Hahn, and Ruby Braithwaite, and brother, Richard Toms. The family would like to thank longtime friends and neighbors, June and Isabel Stottlemyer for their faithful friendship and always being there with helping hands over the years. We would also like to especially thank each and every person who cared for Gwen at St. Joseph’s. Services and burial will be private and at the convenience of the family with beloved pastor Mark Hosler officiating. Gwen requested contributions be sent to; St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 220 East 42nd St. Suite 435, New York, NY 10017. Arrangements were made by J.L.
