Hazel Jane Early, 94, of Wolfsville, MD, passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at Complete Care in Hagerstown, surrounded by loving family.
Born on August 6, 1930, in Middletown, MD, she was the daughter of the late Ruth Esther (Schildknecht) and D. Ralph Kepler.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Cyrus Welty Early; Sisters, Eva Leatherman, Alberta Kepler, Cleo Bowman, Betty Swope, Miriam Wolfe; and Brother, Daniel Kepler.
Hazel graduated from Middletown High School, class of 1947.
For most of her life, Hazel was a farmers' wife and homemaker. She also worked for a short time in the Bakery at Martins Grocery Store as a cake decorator.
Hazel was a member of Grossnickle Church of the Brethren, Myersville, MD. She was very involved in various church activities, such as quilting and Meals on Wheels.
Hazel enjoyed quilting, cross stitching, puzzles. She loved the outdoors and gardening and growing flowers. She also enjoyed going to church, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by 3 Children: Wayne C. Early and wife, Joyce, of Greencastle, PA; Linda K. Pate of Wolfsville, MD; and Gene R. Early of Sulphur Springs, TX; Grandchildren, John Early, Heidi Pate, and Robert Early (wife Ashley); Great Grandchildren, Maddie, Roper, and Ryder; and numerous Nieces and Nephews.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, June 5, 2025, at 10:30AM at Grossnickle Church of the Brethren, 11301 Meeting House Rd. Myersville, MD 21773 with Pastor Kinley Simmers officiating. Interment will follow in Grossnickle Church Cemetery, Myersville, MD.
Family will receive friends Wednesday, June 4, 2025, from 6-8 PM at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg, MD.
The family would like to give special thanks to the Doctors and staff in the ICU at Meritus Medical Center, Hagerstown, MD, for the care they gave to Mom while she was there.
