Horace "John" Arlington Bailey, Jr., 91, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away peacefully Monday, August 19, 2024, at Somerford House, Hagerstown, MD, surrounded by loving family.
Born on October 15, 1932, in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late Darris Mae (Lehman) and Horace A. Bailey, Sr.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Joann Bailey; and Sister, Patricia.
John graduated from Hagerstown High School, class of 1950.He served in the United States Army. Following his service, he completed his education at Hagerstown Junior College studying Drafting.
John was employed by the Pangborn Corporation for 45 years. He started as an Apprentice Draftsman, working his way up to VP of Engineering. His job allowed him the opportunity to travel all over the world and build lasting friendships.
In addition to his career, John was a lifetime member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Hagerstown, where he was active serving on numerous committees, Hagerstown Elks Lodge #378, and Morris Frock American Legion, Post 42. He also enjoyed volunteer work for Meals on Wheels and the hospital Auxiliary.
In his spare time, he enjoyed playing golf, sailing, and spending time with family and friends. He had a passion for traveling, enjoying many trips and cruises all over the world with his wife and friends, this love of travel has been passed down to all three of his grandchildren.
He is survived by his daughter, Julie Plummer and husband Jay, residing in Littlestown, PA; Son, Brent Bailey and wife, Deanna of Williamsport, MD; Grandchildren, Erin Plummer of Indialantic Beach, Florida Erica Bailey of Longmont, Colorado, Matt Bailey and wife Gaby of San Diego, California, sister, Betsy Stone; and numerous Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and many close friends.
The Family will hold a private service at their convenience.
