Mr. Herbert “Barney” Gingell, born June 20, 1961 passed peacefully at his home on January 24, 2026 after a courageous battle with cancer.
He leaves behind his partner-in-crime of 25 years, Jill, who continually struggled to keep him in line.
Barney was a jack of all trades, master of many. He was a union carpenter, electrician, he put almost 40 years of service in with the Emmitsburg Ambulance Company #26 and the Vigilant Hose Company #6. If you ask him, he was a master of doing BBQ Chicken! He volunteered with the Boy Scouts, Church and several other organizations including the One Wish Foundation, who lovingly referred to him as “Barnyard”. He was also a member of the Blue Ridge Sportsmen’s Association.
Barney touched many lives and will be greatly missed, always remembered and is a man to be celebrated. He was always willing to help anyone in any way that he could. His treasured times would be spent surrounded by family and friends soaking up good vibes, cracking lots of jokes, telling tons of stories, listening to music and shaking a leg on the dance floor with a Miller Lite or on the bar with Patron!
His legacy will forever be cherished for his infectious, fun-loving spirit, compassion, selflessness, kindness and humor. When you saw him, he always had the mischievous smile on his face.
At Barney’s request a “Party of Friends” will be scheduled at a later date to be held in warmer weather at B&T Unique where he will have a permanent seat at the bar.
Barney would want everyone to not cry because he is gone; instead, be happy that he was here.
Today he is pain free, happy and you know he is dancing.
