Hilda Edna (Kline) Cartee

Hilda Edna (Kline) Cartee, 95, of Wolfsville died at the home of her daughter Karen, November 
14, 2022, with her family by her side.   Born July 15, 1927, she was the daughter of Equilla and 
Edna Ruth (Wolfe) Kline.  She was the last surviving member of her family.   
She is survived by her daughters, Karen F. Lewis of Myersville and Darla R. Benedum of 
Waynesboro, PA., her grandchildren, Diana L. Lewis, Myersville, Michael W. Lewis and wife 
Brandy of Myersville and C. Bradley Benedum of Waynesboro.  She loved and cherished her two 
great-grandsons, Matthew and Luke Lewis.  In addition to her parents, she was pre-deceased in 
death by her son-in-law, Wayne C. Lewis, brothers Ray, Merhl, Paul, Gerald, Ralph, Herald, 
sisters, Evelyn Hatfield, Darleane Moser, Pauline Kline and her granddaughter Infant Lewis at 
birth. 
She was a lifetime member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Wolfsville.  Hilda worked at Hanover 
Shoe in Middletown, the Dan Dee Restaurant and Thurmont Shoe Factory.  She attended 
elementary school until the 4th grade and then stayed home to take care of her mother who 
became ill.  She was a hard worker but never complained. 
She loved cooking, working in her yard, making fudge for friends and traveling to 49 states.  She 
especially enjoyed Hawaii.  She loved her family, and her door was always open to welcome 
anyone.   
The family will receive friends at J. L. Davis Funeral Home, 12525 Bradbury Ave., Smithsburg, 
MD, Friday, November 18, 2022 from 6-8 pm.  The service will be held at St. Mark’s Lutheran 
Church, 12704 Wolfsville Rd., Smithsburg MD on November 19, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor 
Eric Moser officiating.  The burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial 
donations can be made to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund, 12704 Wolfsville Rd.,
