Howard Myers Obituary

Howard Earl Myers passed away on 13 September 2024.

Howard was a farm boy that developed his work ethic and love of animals working on the farm his entire childhood. He had a pet pig and took naps with his horse. His love of animals carried on until the end with the love of his 2 favorite girls Molly and Bailey. They're his dogs and his wife wasn't too jealous.

He attended Hagerstown High and was a member of the radio club and president of the audio-visual club. In his senior yearbook, Howard was the one to call if there was something wrong with your radio and may have a career in it. Today he would have probably been called a geek. Upon graduation he went to work for Frinfrock and then for Antietam Equipment Corp as parts manager where he worked for 35 years until his retirement. He was a member of Welty's Church of the Brethren for 56 years.

When he was younger, he squared danced with his wife Donna and drugged his kids along (and they reluctantly enjoyed it). He rode a Honda Goldwing with his "gang" and joined the Hudson Club when he bought a car similar to the one he owned as a boy. He loved being and working outdoors, and traveling all over the US. Initially in the camper he built, then in the motorhome he converted from an old Blue Bird school bus, and then in a store-bought motorhome. On a side note, when he visited the Blue Bird Wanderlodge factory (where they made motor homes) the gentlemen was so impressed with his work they offered him a job. With his family he visited every state except Alaska. Having fun at the different campgrounds and amazed at the different sites they saw including many, many National Parks. His favorite trip was Hawaii and no that one wasn't in the motor home.

In his later years, he couldn't move around as well but he still loved being outside sitting on the porch and watching nature. He also enjoyed meeting his breakfast club guys at the Parlor House a couple of mornings a week when he could make it. He got to know and like those that worked there too.

Howard was a kind and loving man and was always ready to help those in need be it family, friends, neighbors, or his church family. In fact, when he was a boy, he helped soldiers on maneuvers from Camp Ritchie. They had gotten lost and he found them in a field. He told them where they were and how to get to where they needed to go. Although good works are their own reward, for helping the soldiers he did get a candy bar. He will be greatly missed.

Howard is survived by his beautiful wife of 56 years, Donna. His loving children: Suzi, Charles, Michael, Brenda, and Michael, his 11 grandchildren and his 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded by his mother and father Sarah and Earl, his sisters Charlotte and Margaret, and his daughter Donna.
