JAMES E LEWIS

James Eugene Lewis, 77, of Leitersburg, MD, passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 1, 2025, at Meritus Medical Center, Hagerstown, MD, after a long battle with cancer.

Born on January 26, 1947, in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late Helen (Kline) and Gaither Lewis.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Roy Lewis, and Niece, Crystal Lewis.

James graduated from North Hagerstown High School, class of 1965.

He served in the U.S. Army, having served in the Vietnam War from 1966-1968.

After his service in the military, he became an HVAC mechanic and was employed by Grove Crane Manufacturing, then later was an Assemblyman at Mack Truck where he retired in 2006.

James enjoyed working and riding on John Deere tractors, motorcycles and Corvettes. But for the past 5-10 years, developed a love and passion for Cats. He would feed the stray cats when he had the chance.

He is survived by his daughter, Christina Bloom of Junction City, KS; 3 Grandchildren, Garrett Lewis, Brittony Lewis and Jayson Quicksall; 5 Great Grandchildren; Brother, Richard Lewis (Dawn); Nephew, Matt Lewis (Madison); and Nieces; Jessica Lewis (Brian McGraw), Lori Adolini and Tammy Perger; Numerous cousins; and his loving cat Managerie.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, January 9, 2025, at 4 PM at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, 12525 Bradbury Ave. Smithsburg, MD 21783.

Family will receive friends one hour prior.
