JOHN SHIRK Obituary

John Wayne Shirk, of Hagerstown, Maryland, passed away on April 14 at the age of 77. Born on July 8, 1947, in Clear Spring, he was the son of the late Elaine “Peach” Small and Joseph Murphy "Keem" Shirk

John was a devoted husband to Brenda Kay Shirk, with whom he shared 55 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a life rooted in love, family, and community.

He is survived by his daughter Amanda Roof and her husband Kevin, along with their daughter Morgan and boyfriend Connor; and by his son John “J.D.” Shirk and his wife Lori, and their children Matt and Rachel. John was a proud and loving grandfather, and his family meant the world to him.

He was preceded in death by his brother Robert "Bobby" Shirk and is survived by his sister Patricia "Pat" Zimmerman, who continues to carry on the family’s strong spirit.

A lifelong New York Yankees fan and talented musician, John played bluegrass for many years with the band Grassfire Express, sharing his love of music with all who heard him.

John retired from Fil-Tec after a dedicated career, and in retirement he embraced life’s simple pleasures—music, baseball, and time spent with loved ones.

He was known for his quick wit and his ability to get a good laugh out of just about anyone. Whether it was a perfectly timed comment or a one-liner out of nowhere, John had a way of bringing humor into every moment. His sense of humor was just one of the many things that made him such a joy to be around.

John will be remembered for his warm heart, his musical spirit, his love for his family, and the laughter he brought to so many lives.

There will be no viewing or services. The burial will be at the convenience of the family.
