James "Jim" Brown Obituary

James Riley “Jim” Brown, 77, of Hagerstown, MD, went HOME to be with his Lord, Monday, May 31, 2021. Born October 3, 1943, in Cumberland, MD, and raised in Oldtown, MD, he was the son of the late Millard Canvy Brown and Elva Mae (Hinkle) Brown. He was a graduate of Oldtown High School class of 1961 and attended Liberty Home Bible Institute. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of Evangel Baptist Church, Hagerstown, MD, and also a member of Christian Business Men’s Connection. Known as Chaplain Jim Brown and being a lifetime truck driver, he served as chaplain for Transport for Christ and also God’s Trucking Ministry. He was ordained by AECC. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Bonna Jean (Knippenberg) Brown who he married April 7, 1962, three sons, Mark A. Brown and companion Monica Morgan, Michael A. Brown and wife Rebecca, and Matthew A. Brown, one brother, Roger L. Brown and wife Carol, one sister-in-law, Patricia Brown, four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two nephews and one niece. He was preceded in death by one brother, Joe M. Brown. A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, June 12, 2021, at 2:00pm at Evangel Baptist Church, Hagerstown, MD, with Pastor Ron Faith officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Evangel Baptist Church, 17922 Broadfording Rd. Hagerstown, MD, 21740 for Samaritan’s Purse / Operation Christmas Child Shoe Box Postage.
