Jane Carroll (Estes) Baxter

Jane C. Baxter, 90, of Cascade, MD, passed away Saturday, August 3, 2019 at her home. Born Wednesday, October 3, 1928 in Oak Hill, WV, she was the daughter of the late John C. Estes and Eva (Thurmond) Estes. She was a high school graduate and later graduated from secretarial school. She was employed by the Pentagon for several years as a secretary. She was a member of South Mountain Rod and Gun Club of Smithsburg, American Legion post 239 of Cascade and Blue Ridge Sportsman’s Association of Blue Ridge Summit. She enjoyed gardening, refinishing furniture and was a very thoughtful person who loved to support local small businesses. Jane is survived by sons, John D. Baxter and William D. Baxter, daughter, Cindy J. Fortney, grandchildren, Matthew Baxter, Ruth Ann Baxter, Michael Baxter, Shannon Baxter, Aaron Baxter and Deanna Fortney. She was preceded in death by her sister, Grace Obele. There will be no viewing. A graveside service will be held Saturday, August 10, 2019 at 2:00pm at Bethel Cemetery, Cascade, MD, with Pastor Mark Hostler officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of Jane Baxter to Guide Dogs of America 13445 Glen Oaks Blvd. Sylmar, CA, 91342. Arrangements were made by J.L.
