Jean Dorothy (O'Connell) Leonard-Bushnell

Jean Dorothy O’Connell Leonard Bushnell, 89, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2021, at Fahrney-Keedy Memorial Home in Boonsboro. Jean was born on March 2, 1932, and grew up in Westerville, Ohio. She graduated from Mount Vernon Academy then moved to Takoma Park, MD to attend Washington Missionary College. She worked as a nurse then childcare provider. She was married to John Leonard from 1955 until his death in 1987 and was devoted to him and their two daughters. She married Harvey Bushnell in 1993 and retired to Fahrney-Keedy. She will be missed by daughter Lori and son-in-law Richard Shinnick in Olney, MD, granddaughter Stephanie Peluso Pavone and great-granddaughter Adrianna Pavone in Lake-in-the-Hills, IL. She is predeceased by parents Robert and Gertrude O’Connell, aunt Dorothy Weagly, husbands John and Harvey, and daughter Linda Peluso. She loved God, the smiles of children, the purring of cats, and everything mint green. She loved to play the piano, take scenic drives, and eat out at restaurants. She volunteered as a church pianist and sang in various choirs. Her music memory was amazing, she could hear a word and immediately start to sing the lyrics to a related song. She always had nice words and a smile for everyone she met. Her family is grateful for the care and compassion of the nursing and activities departments at Fahrney-Keedy. Her life will be celebrated at a memorial service on September 18, 2021, at 3:00 p.m. at Willow Brook Seventh-day Adventist Church in Boonsboro with private interment at Beaver Creek Cemetery.
