Jeane Edwards Obituary

Jeane Perrin Edwards, 95, of Hagerstown, Maryland and formerly of Indianapolis, Indiana died peacefully at home on April 27, 2022, after a long illness. She was born January 3, 1927, in Baltimore, MD to Ralph Perrin and Augusta Dabrasky Perrin Hicks. She graduated from Western High School in Baltimore in 1945 and from the Women’s Hospital of Baltimore Nursing Program in 1947. She worked as an RN and graduated with a BS degree from Duke University in 1953. She married Joshua L. Edwards in 1953 and was a devoted wife and a loving mother to their three children. The family lived in Gainesville, Florida, Bloomington, Indiana, and ultimately settled in Indianapolis where Jeane lived for over fifty years until relocating to Hagerstown in 2020. Jeane was an active member of Christ Church Cathedral, Indianapolis, over the years assisting in church school and Stephen Ministry and leading the altar guild and the church library. She enjoyed gardening, travel, reading, book clubs, and volunteer work for various agencies. She retired from active nursing in 1984, having worked in Baltimore, Durham, NC, New York, NY, and Indianapolis, IN. As a new nursing graduate, she worked for the Indian Health Service in Fort Defiance, Arizona and remained committed to Native American causes throughout her life. She was predeceased by her parents, her sister Mary Ellen Perrin Tomich, and in1991, by her husband. She is survived by her children Julia Edwards Adkins of Hagerstown, Jean Edwards Thomas and son-in law Mark Thomas of Hagerstown, and Joshua L. Edwards III of Tucson, Arizona as well as by 3 grandchildren, Hannah J. Edwards of Berlin, Germany, Joshua E. Thomas of Norfolk, Virginia, and Julia E. Thomas of San Diego, California. A memorial service will be held Monday, May 2, 2022, at 1:00 PM at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 101 South Prospect Street, Hagerstown followed by interment in Rose Hill Cemetery. A memorial donation may be made to the charity of one’s choice. The family expresses special thanks to Hospice of Washington County, Right at Home In-Home Care and Assistance, Fahrney-Keedy Adult Day Program, and St. John’s Episcopal Church for their care and support.
