John Martin Palmer, Sr.

John Martin Palmer, Sr., 89, of Smithsburg, MD, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at Meritus Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.

Born June 17, 1935, in Maryland, he was the son of the late Howard and Florene Palmer.

He was a lifelong member of the Smithsburg and Antietam Fire Department, and Beards Lutheran Church of Smithsburg, MD.

John was a graduate of Smithsburg High School, Class of 1953.

He worked at Jamison Door Company, retiring after 44 years. He then went onto work for Conway/XPO Logistics for an additional 20 years, to fill his free time.

John was an avid bowler and golfer. He loved wearing his flannel or Hawaiian shirts, and he cherished spending all his time with his family and loved ones.

John is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Brenda L. (Hosfeld) Palmer, whom he married on January 12, 1957; daughter, Bonnie Mittag of Smithsburg, Md; son, John Palmer Jr. (Tisha) of Smithsburg, MD; grandchildren, Katherine Henson (Sean) of Smithsburg, MD, Diana Warren (Corey) of Waynesboro, PA, and Samantha Palmer of Smithsburg, MD; great-grandchildren, Isabelle Henson, Baylee Warren, and Rebecca Garrett, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his infant sister, Joyce Palmer, and sister, Mary Ellen Palmer.

Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at 2:00 pm at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, 12525 Bradbury Ave, Smithsburg, MD. Family will receive friends for visitation the evening prior, January 14, 2025, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm, at J.L. Davis Funeral Home.

Burial will be private.
