On Friday, September 6, 2024, Joyce Gregory passed away following a brief illness and now rests at home with the Lord.
Born on April 14, 1929, in Beloit, WI, she was one of three children of the late Ralph Warren and Irene Helen Wickus.
During the Depression the family moved to Hazleton, PA where their father found work.
Joyce remained in Hazleton, graduating from Hazelton High School in 1947, until she married James Gregory in 1951 and moved to Frederick, MD.
While in Maryland she worked for Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Company, Farmers and Mechanics National Bank as a bookkeeper, and Myersville Savings Bank as Data Processing Manager. She retired in 1992 and moved from her home in Myersville to
Hagerstown, MD.
Joyce lived a life of service to others. She was active in her church and community. She served on various church committees at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Myersville and St. Andrews Methodist Church in Hagerstown. She served in a variety of leadership roles in the Homemakers clubs of Frederick and Washington Counties and volunteered at Myersville, Valley, and Ballenger Creek Elementary schools. She was an avid reader and loved to travel in her retirement. She inherited the love of crafts from her mother and was always
creating items to give and share with friends and family.
Joyce is survived by her sons Marc Gregory (Melissa), Michael Gregory (Desarie), and Jon Gregory (Vicki); grandchildren Benjamin Gregory (Sadie), Bethany Reuschling (Michael), Ian Gregory, and Patrick Gregory; great-grandchildren Grant, Dean, Hattie and Clara; nieces Cindy Cazarez (Anthony), and Susan Atkins (Greg).
Joyce is preceded in death by her brother Robert Wickus, and sister and brother-in law Kaye and Edward Maue.
The family will receive friends for visitation from 6:00-8:00 pm, Friday, September 20, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 12704 Wolfsville Rd, Smithsburg, MD 21783.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, September 21, with visitation prior to the service at 10:00 am, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 12704 Wolfsville Rd, Smithsburg, MD 21783.
A repast will be hosted by St. Mark’s following the service. The service will be officiated by Pastor Eric Moser.
