It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of Kathleen Marie Dowell, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, on March 13, 2025.
Kathleen was born on November 23, 1953, in Washington, DC to Joyce and Joseph Loewe. As a child she attended Holy Family and then went on to LaReine High School. She pursued a degree in teaching, studying at both Prince George’s Community College and the University of Maryland.
Kathy was a teacher for almost 30 years. She had a passion for children’s literature and especially loved Dr. Seuss and Pete the Cat. Every student who crossed her path was blessed to have been under her wing and learn from her.
Family was everything to Kathy. She cherished every moment she got to spend with her husband, children, and grandchildren. She especially loved and looked forward to their yearly family beach vacations in Duck, North Carolina. She never missed an opportunity to attend her children and grandchildren’s sporting events, piano recitals, dance recitals, and birthday parties. She always smiled and beamed with pride at their every accomplishment.
She loved gardening, shell hunting, walking on the beach, drawing, coloring, and crafting. It brought her so much joy to share all of her favorite activities with her grandchildren.
Kathy is preceded in death by her parents, sister Donna, and nephew Thomas. She is survived by her husband Chris, children Anthony (Brandi), Bonnie (Adam), Mike (Nikki), grandchildren Olivia, Camden, Parker, Elliana, Bennett, Connor, and Owen, sisters Cheryl, Christine, and Bonnie, her brother Mike, and many nieces and nephews.
Though we are heartbroken by her passing, we know her love and light will continue to shine through the lives of everyone she touched.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 20, 2025, from 2pm - 4pm and 6pm - 8pm at St. Agnus Catholic Church, 200 S. Duke St, Shepherdstown WV, 25443.
A Mass of Chirstian Burial will be held Friday, March 21, 2025, at 11:00 am at St. Agnus Catholic Church, inurnment to follow at church cemetery.
