Obituary
M. Georganna “Moe” Grossnickel a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all, went to be with her Lord on May 4th. Georganna spent her final days as a fun-loving resident of the Fahrney Keedy Memorial Home in Boonsboro, MD.
She was born on January 28, 1937, the daughter of Harry and Ruth Martin of Hagerstown, MD. She was predeceased by her husband of 38 years, Joe R. Grossnickel, Sr, her parents, and 3 brothers, Marvin, Buck and Ralph and 4 sisters Pat Statler, Virginia Schnurr, Jean Weaver, and Helen Mellott. She is survived by her sister Dorothy Lorraine Troxell, her son Joe R. Grossnickel, Jr. and daughter-in -law Christine of Germantown, MD and grandsons Jared and Chase Grossnickel and numerous nieces and nephews.
Georganna attended the Hagerstown Business College and began her career at 21 as a bookkeeper at Chewsville Cooperative, C.R. Semler, Inc and finished her working career at CitiGroup.
She was a life-long member of the Church of the Brethren, first as a member of Grace Brethren Church and then the Grossnickle Church of the Brethren. She was best known for her love of making delicious cakes, pies, and fried chicken for all of her loved ones. Her leisure time was filled with visiting friends and family, volunteering at church and playing bingo.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 21st at 11am at the Grossnickle Church of the Brethren. Private burial services will be scheduled by the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Georganna’s name to the Grossnickle Church of the Brethren, 11301 Meeting House Road, Myersville, MD 21773.
