Marguerite Amelia (Buchanan) Jacques

Marguerite Amelia Jacques, 100, of Smithsburg, MD, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, March 25, 2023. Born, June 18, 1922, in Hagerstown, MD, she was the daughter of the late William H. Buchanan, and M. Ruth (Middlekauff) Buchanan. She attended Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, VA. At the beginning of World War II she went to work at Fairchild Industries in Hagerstown, MD. She married Denton Jacques in February of 1943. Marguerite subsequently raised a family of three sons and worked with her husband in the family business which they eventually purchased and it became Edgemont Orchards Inc. Marguerite was a member of the Hagerstown Womens Club (Former Recording Secretary), Green Acres Homemakers (Former 2x president and recording secretary), St. Anns Episcopal Church, The Golden Society, Mary Washington College Alumni Association, Past President of the Woman’s Auxilliary of the Maryland State Horticulture Society. “Marge” loved swimming and taking day hikes, especially on the Appalachian Trial. She also had a great love of animals, especially her feline friends. Marguerite is survived by her sons, Denton R. Jacques Jr.(wife Susie), John D. Jacques (wife Cathy), Brian B. Jacques (wife Melody), all of Smithsburg, MD, grandchildren, Demi Jacques and Tara Jacques, Denton R. Jacques III, and Jason M. Jacques. In addition to her parents, Marguerite was preceded in death by her husband, Denton R. Jacques, Sr., and sister, Helen R. Ginsburg. The family will be receiving friends on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, 12525 Bradbury Ave, Smithsburg, MD, 21783.
