Martha Ann (Shriner) Toms, 77, of Thurmont, MD, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, December 20, 2025, with her family by her side.
Born March 23, 1948, in Thurmont, MD, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Estella Shriner.
Martha was a graduate of Thurmont High School, Class of 1966.
For many years, Martha was employed at Claire Frock and The Thurmont Shoe Company. She later worked as a bartender at the Amvets in Thurmont, and also in the kitchen at Mount Saint Mary's College. Her favorite job was working with friends and family at Creekside Cafe until its closure in 2006.
Martha greeted everyone with a warm smile and was known for her wit and sense of humor, often bringing laughter to those around her.
She treasured memories of night fishing on the Monocacy River with her husband and children, moments filled with togetherness and simple joy. An avid bingo player, Martha also loved camping and bird watching, and she held a special fondness for hummingbirds, which always brought her delight.
In addition to her parents, Martha is preceded in death by two brothers, Francis and Kenneth Shriner, and one sister, Margaret (Margie) Sweeney.
Martha is survived by her husband of fifty years, Ronald Toms and children, Mark Manahan (Tamara) of Sabillasville, MD, Cathy Fogle (Dan) of Hedgesville, WV, Jeff Manahan of Thurmont, MD, and Ronnie Lee Toms of Thurmont, MD; 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Ruthie Wagerman and Pauline (Gene) Claybaugh.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the nurses at DaVita in Gettysburg who cared for Martha over the past six years, and to Hospice of Frederick County for their exceptional care, compassion, and kindness.
