Mary Elizabeth (Young) Castle

Mary Elizabeth Young Castle, 83 of Smithsburg, MD passed away on October 4, 2023, at her home.

Born October 4, 1940, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late James Tillman Young Sr. and the late May Florence (Davis) Young Powers.

Mary started her career as a truck driver for Goodwill, then proceeded to work as a shipping clerk/order processor at Boat US/West Marine.  She ended her working years at Amvets Post 10 and Weis Markets before retiring after many years of hard work and dedication.

She had so much love for every single member of her family. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Mary was an avid bingo player in her earlier years.  She enjoyed watching John Wayne movies, playing cards and games with family and her yearly vacation to Myrtle Beach, SC with her siblings, nieces, and nephews.

Mary is survived by two daughters, Peggy Ridenour and husband Harold Ridenour Jr, and Vienna Moon and husband Phillip Moon; six grandchildren: David Ridenour & wife Bethany, Daniel Ridenour & wife Marissa, Steven Broussard & wife Jessica, Stuart Broussard & Ashely, Rhiannon Moon & Gavin, and Lachen Whittington & husband Ryan; and eight great-grandchildren Bailey, Harper, Benjamin, Hannah, Samuel, Embyr, Kain and Jackson, and many nieces & nephews.  She is also survived by the family dogs, that she loved and spent many hours with, Jake and Momma.

Mary was preceded in death by three sisters, May Rohrback, Shirley Gross and Alice Young; six brothers, John Young, Richard Young, William Young, James Young, Fred Young and half-brother, Ed Brown.

The family will receive friends at J. L. Davis Funeral Home, 12525 Bradbury Avenue, Smithsburg, MD on Saturday, October 7 beginning at 10 am, and until the funeral service begins at 11:00AM.  Pastor Alan Robinson and Harold Ridenour Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Beaver Creek Cemetery.
