Michael Kent Cunningham, 84, of Hagerstown, Maryland, passed away January 31, 2026, at Creekside Assisted Living in Hagerstown.
Born December 17, 1941, in Hagerstown, he was the son of Richard Elwood Cunningham and Lillian Powell Hamilton.
Michael was a lifelong resident of Washington County and a graduate of South Hagerstown High School.
He spent many years working in the HVAC industry and later explored real estate and various small business ventures. Michael enjoyed racing—first go-karts, later stock cars—and played guitar throughout his life, maintaining a lasting connection to music through his church’s music ministry and local Senior Idol events.
Michael married his high school sweetheart, Georgie Lynn (Hartle) Cunningham, and together they shared a long life shaped by family, faith, friendships, and the complexities that come with a life fully lived. Known for his humor and unconventional spirit, he was someone people remembered.
He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, now Hagerstown Church.
He is survived by his wife, Georgie Lynn Cunningham; son Anthony Wayne (Celine) Cunningham of Carlisle, Pennsylvania; siblings Rhonda and Richard; and grandchildren and extended family. He was preceded in death by his son, Troy Lyn Cunningham; his parents; and his sister, Linda.
Private family services will be held.
