NELLIE MARIE PEIFFER

Nellie Marie Peiffer, age 96, passed into Heaven to be united with family and friends on the morning of July 31, 2023.

Marie was born July 2, 1927, in Beldor, Rockingham County, VA.

She was the daughter of late George Harrison Shifflett and the late Lessie Lee Wood Shifflett.

The Shifflett family moved from VA to Ringgold, MD in 1931.

She attended Ringgold School and Smithsburg Schools.

Marie met her late husband Richard (Dick) Peiffer while he was home on leave from the Army.

Richard and Marie were married November 14, 1945. They were married 60 years before he passed away in 2006.

They built their house where she still lived until she was placed for 6 days at Coffman Nursing Home.

Marie loved to cook, bake, iron and maintain a tidy house. Marie worked for Waynesboro Knitting Mill, Dr. Wishard/Dick Welty's packing house, Newcomer Organ Factory at Smithsburg, Workings Butchering in Leitersburg and retired after 32 years with Milmar Plastic in Leitersburg, MID.

Marie was past President of the Ladies Aux LVFD, Smithsburg Senior Citizens Club, and a member of St. Paul's Free Lutheran Church of Leitersburg.

Marie is survived by one son Richard E. Peiffer and wife Judy of Smithsburg; Granddaughter Jennifer Hanlon and husband Craig Allen of Alvin, TX; Grandson Christopher Peiffer and wife Jennifer of Zullinger, PA; and Great-grandson (Texas Tornado) Nathan Patrick Hanlon. She is also survived by her brother Leardie Harrison Shifflett and wife Martha of Quincy, PA and many nieces and nephews. Marie was preceded in death by three sisters: Josie Madalyn Shifflett, Lottie Pearl Tracy, Margie Louise Coleman and two brothers: George Ernest Shifflett and Leonard Joseph Shifflett.

The services will be held on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at 10:00 am at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Leitersburg, MD, with a viewing one hour prior to service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Absolutely NO FLOWERS. Flowers are for the living to enjoy, and the dead don't care.
