Paul William “Bill” Malcolm Jr, 77, of Hagerstown, Maryland entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, September 17 at Wellspan Waynesboro Hospital surrounded by family.
He was born on Sunday, December 29, 1946, and grew up in Fort Ashby, West Virginia. He was the son of the late Paul W. Malcolm Sr and Doris Maxine Klein Malcolm. Bill was also preceded in death by his loving wife Carol Malcolm in 2003.
He was a graduate of Fort Ashby High School in 1964 and attended Potomac State College. He was a life member of Fort Ashby VFW Post 6667, The American Legion Post 42, NRA, Waynesboro Fish & Game Club, a past member of NARG and past member of Hagerstown Elks Lodge Post 378. He was also a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church in Chewsville, Maryland.
Bill proudly served as a Fireman in the US Navy and was aboard the anti-submarine warfare support aircraft carrier, The USS Intrepid during the Vietnam War. He was in the 7th Fleet in the Gulf of Tonkin.
Bill had a lengthy employment at Tristate Electrical Supply and later Capital Electric in Hagerstown, Maryland where he worked his way from Front Counter Sales to VP of Purchasing over the span of 30+ years.
For several years he and his wife Carol were the proud owners of the Dixie Eatery in Smithsburg, Maryland.
In later years he was employed by Matheny Fire and Emergency, NAPA Auto Parts and Meritus Medical Center.
Bill's stature may have been small, but he had the heart of a giant. He loved his family and friends and gave unselfishly of himself to many people. His caring ways will be instilled in the minds of his family and friends forever.
Bill was survived by his two sisters Sandra K. Glass of Thurmont, Maryland and Linda L. Malcolm Laird of Fort Ashby, West Virginia. Two sons, Deron S. Malcolm, wife Mistyna of Hagerstown, and Matthew W Malcolm, wife Jennifer, also of Hagerstown. Seven grandchildren, Payton Malcolm, Delaney Hatcher, husband William, Parker Malcolm, Clay and Kaylee Ricker, and Dalton and Emah Malcolm, three great-granddaughters, Wrenley Malcolm, Harley Jackson and Everleigh Malcolm. Two nephews, Wesley Glass, wife Leesa of Frederick, Maryland and Tom Nicol of Hagerstown. He was also survived by numerous cousins.
In addition to his parents and wife Carol, he was preceded in death by granddaughter Alaina Malcolm and great-granddaughters, Presley and Brynleigh Malcolm.
A Celebration of Life will be Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, 12525 Bradbury Ave, Smithsburg MD, from 6-8pm.
Services will be Wednesday, September 25 at Fort Ashby Cemetery with Military Honors at 1pm.
