Ralph Patrick Horley, 70, of Sharpsburg, MD passed into eternal life on January 12, 2022. He was born on October 18, 1951, in Cleveland, Ohio. Beloved in his many roles, Ralph was a wonderful husband to his wife of 42 years, Paula Ann (Dostal), and a supportive father to his children Amanda (Patrick) Wodzinski and Patrick (Nora Wintermute), in whom he inspired a sense of independence and a love of exploration and service. He made it to every one of his son’s Little League games and enjoyed countless hours at the Smithsonian with his daughter. He cherished his grandchildren Jack and Katie, who seem poised to carry on his adventurous streak. He is also survived by his brother and sister James (Mary) Horley of Aurora, Ohio, and LaVerne (Francis) Sezemsky of North Royalton, Ohio, as well as by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He was greeted in heaven by his parents, Mildred (Bellery) and John Horley, as well as by his brother William. A 1969 graduate of Padua Franciscan High School in Parma, Ohio, Ralph graduated from Kent State University in 1973. From 1973-1975, Ralph completed his posting in the health service division of the Peace Corps in Tunis, Tunisa. His career as a cartographer spanned NOAA, Defense Mapping Agency, and FAA, as well as the tracks of the daily 5am MARC train. After finally achieving the illustrious goal of retirement, Ralph was enjoying wood carving, working outside, helping his neighbors, reading, and catering to his wife’s every whim. Ralph never found a Civil War battlefield unworthy of dragging his family to, nor a Western that he didn’t love. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Parkinson’s Foundation would be appreciated. Arrangements were made by J.L. Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg, MD and online condolences may be offered at www.jldavisfh.com.
