Richard Calvin Huntzberry

Richard Calvin Huntzberry, 87, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown. Born and raised in the Pondsville area on May 15, 1933, he was the son of the late Verdean and Mildred (Fox) Huntsberry. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Margaret Jean (Clopper) Huntzberry on September 28, 2010. They were married March 16, 1953. Richard was a graduate of Smithsburg High School class of 1951. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He worked and retired from A&P Grocery Store as a produce manager for over 30 years. He and his wife were the owners and operators of Huntzberry Fruit Market. Richard is survived by three brothers, Kenneth Huntsberry and wife Sarah of Greensburg, MD, Harold Huntsberry and companion Betty of Williamsport, MD, and Bobby Huntsberry and wife Mary of Boonsboro, MD, one sister, Helen Bitner of Hagerstown, MD, special-in-laws, Ernie and Shirley Clopper of Greensburg, MD, Jim Clopper of Smithsburg, MD, Hilda Clopper of Williamsport, MD, and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one brother, Tom Huntsberry, two brother-in-law’s, Lynn Bitner and Bob Clopper, and two sister-in-law's, Dena Clopper and Dolly Jenkins. Even though Richard and Margaret never had children of their own, both of them had a big influence on many of their nieces, nephews and others. He was a father image to several people. He provided a lot of guidance to many people in his life. He was a hard worker and very proud of all his accomplishments despite a hard upbringing. He always enjoyed his home and new vehicles. He also got much pleasure from socializing and eating meals with his friends. He did find happiness with a special companion, Pat Kline during the last year and a half of his life. She made him very happy. He was a good man, had a full life, loved by many and will be missed so much. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at 1:00pm at Smithsburg Cemetery with Pastor Virgil Cain officiating. Arrangements were made by J.L.
