Richard Elmer Kline, Jr., born on September 2, 1950, in Hagerstown, MD, passed away on December 20, 2021, at Fahrney-Keedy Nursing Home in Boonsboro, MD.
He was the son of Richard Elmer Kline and Lillian Charleen Barnhart.
His beloved wife, Nancy Davis Kline, passed away in 2012 and he was also preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Charleen Kline.
Rick was a water plant operator for the city of Hagerstown until his retirement in 2012. In his youth, he had been an Eagle Scout and a veteran of the United States Army.
He was a member of the Smithsburg Volunteer Fire Department and ran ambulance calls for the Smithsburg EMS.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Greensburg, MD.
Rick is survived by his aunts, Claudia, and Clara, as well as cousins, by his best friend, Charlie Henson, and by Anne Perera, his fiancé.
His life was dedicated to serving the community, his family and friends, and his church. Rick also took pride in being a fun-loving rascal, saying “I’ve got to aggravate, or it isn’t me!” It gave him great pleasure to make someone smile or laugh, or to lighten someone’s load in any way. He shared a love of the outdoors and God’s creation with his sister and friends he went camping, boating, fishing, or hunting with, and he enjoyed wood carving. He was blessed by good neighbors and good friends and was a blessing in return.
Rick’s funeral will be held Monday, January 3, 2022, at 11:00am, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at 13205 Greensburg Rd. Smithsburg, MD, followed by internment in the Smithsburg Cemetery. The Rev. Julie Brigham will officiate.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, or to the charity of your choice.
Arrangements were handled by J.L. Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg, MD and online condolences may be offered at www.jldavisfh.com.
