Ronald Austin “Ronnie” Martin, 78, of Waynesboro, PA (formerly of Smithsburg, MD), passed away Sunday, October 19, 2025, at WellSpan Waynesboro Hospital.
Born November 20, 1946, in the farmhouse at Gardenhour’s Orchard in Smithsburg, he was the son of the late Austin V. and Lilian I. Martin.
Ronnie is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Elizabeth “Betsy” Martin; three sons, Rodney Martin (Becky), Phillip Martin (Teresa), and Richard Martin (Tina); four grandchildren, Maddie, Austin (Emma), Jack, and Josh; one sister, Shirley M. Clopper (Ernest); and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Vernon “Gene” Martin, and sister, Delores “Dee” Hammond.
Ronnie was a 1964 graduate of Smithsburg High School. He was the owner of R.A. Martin’s Home Improvements. He served as a president, coach, and manager of Smithsburg Little Sluggers. He was a lifelong member of the Smithsburg Volunteer Fire Company and a former member of the Knights of Pythias.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 25, at 3 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 15 W. Main St., Smithsburg, MD. The family will receive friends at the church from 1 to 3 p.m., prior to the service. Private interment will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Ronnie’s honor to Trinity Lutheran Church, Smithsburg, MD.
