SUSAN FLINK Obituary

Susan Elaine Flink Urban, 62, passed away on February 11, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with Multiple Sclerosis.

Born February 26, 1962, in Baltimore, Maryland, Sue was the loving daughter of the late Thomas O. Flink and Naomi M. (née Toft) Flink of Baltimore, Maryland. She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Paul Timothy (Tim) Urban. Sue was predeceased by her brother, Jeffrey Flink, Sr. and her mother-in-law Mildred L. (née Lowe) Fisher and her husband Edwin L. Fisher. She is survived by her nephew Jeffrey Flink, Jr., and her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ann Maria (née Urban) Green and Mark Green, and their daughter, Lindsay Maria Green, along with many loving cousins, neighbors, and lifelong friends.

Sue and Tim enjoyed a variety of music and movies together and spoke often of music from the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s and their joy in listening to music, preferring their wonderful vinyl LPs. They enjoyed nightly movies and shows with great enthusiasm and joy sharing this often with friends.

She was also an avid reader and film enthusiast and enjoyed discussing authors, books, short stories, and films and the impression they had on her as a young person and in her adult life, often lending books to friends and frequently suggesting books and films.

Sue enjoyed playing the clarinet and piano in school, was a Girl Scout, and, with her family, was actively involved in her church for many years. She also enjoyed serving as a summer camp counselor for special needs children during her high school years and treasured her childhood time outdoors in the neighborhood where she grew up.

A graduate of Hood College in 1984, Sue received a degree in Special Education. She sang with the Hood College choir, performing The Messiah at the Naval Academy. She is remembered by her classmates for her outgoing, fun-loving, and inclusive personality. Sue loved spending time with everyone and held a genuine curiosity about others. Her classmates fondly recall Sue offering her typing skills to those who were behind on their term papers, smiling as she collected a $1 per page.

She enjoyed working in many different places over the years, including teaching for Frederick County, Maryland schools. Sue was a science teacher at The Elm Street School and also taught at Waverly Elementary. She then worked as a mortgage closer and manager at Eastern Mortgage, Huntington Mortgage and, most recently, Wells Fargo. She often spoke of her years at Wells Fargo with great love.

Sue treasured annual trips to the Baltimore Science Fiction Festival with her father, which they attended together until his passing, saying she "wouldn't have traded these trips for the world!" She spoke lovingly of her fondness for her parents and her wonderful childhood, and delighted in going through the mementos her parents saved, as she reminisced about great times.

Sue was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Leitersburg, Maryland.

Her exuberance and enthusiasm for life and her positive presence will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
