Sara Ridenour Obituary

Sara Jane (Kriegh) Ridenour, 93, of Smithsburg, Maryland, passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2022, at Coffman Nursing Home. She was born on January 21, 1929, in Clear Spring, Maryland to the late William F. Kriegh and Alice Ottie (Boward) Kriegh. She was a graduate of Clear Spring High School, class of 1946. She started her working career at the young age of 15 at Huyett’s Bakery in downtown Hagerstown where she worked for two years. Sara Jane attended Hagerstown Business College and graduated in 1947. She was then employed as the secretary for the regional office of the Coca-Cola Company in Hagerstown for eight years. In the 1960’s she was a substitute teacher for various schools in the Washington County Public School system. She and her husband were owners and operators of Mountain Farm Campground that was part of their farm from the mid 1970’s for twenty years. She was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Smithsburg. Sara Jane enjoyed writing, reading, and reciting poetry all her life. She also enjoyed music. In addition to her parents, Sara Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Emerson Ridenour on September 10, 1986; her brothers William (“Billy”) Kriegh, and Charles Kriegh; and her sisters, Emily Poole, and Alice (“Patty”) Mills. She is survived by her children Sally K. (Ridenour) Wagoner and her husband, Randy Wagoner; John H. Ridenour and his partner, Judy Watkins; and Julie Belle (Ridenour) Huff and her husband, Garry B. Huff; her grandchildren Emily M. Wagoner, and Aaron R. Wagoner and his wife Elizabeth and great grandson, Jones Wagoner. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Interment will be at Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church with Pastor Julie Brigham officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Shriners Hospital for Children. Arrangements were made by J.L.
