Sarah Hay Smith, 81, of Cascade, MD, passed away Saturday, December 4, 2021, at her home.
Born January 31, 1940, in Waynesboro, PA, she was the daughter of the late Joseph F. Garver and Pauline V. (Garvin) Garver.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles V. Stover, Jr. and her second husband, Richard Smith.
She was a Graduate of Waynesboro High School.
Sarah was a member of Cascade American Legion post 239 Ladies Auxiliary serving as former president.
She retired from the United States Federal Government working many years at the Ft. Dietrick Commissary. She was also a longtime employee of the Record Herald Newspaper Company in Waynesboro.
Sarah is survived by seven children, Charles Stover, III (Annette), Karen Richardson (Ed), Kenneth Smith (Margie), Wade Stover (Anita), Joseph Stover (Sherry), Peggy Heiston (Gerald), and Lara Bollinger (Joe), eleven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, Longtime companion, Fred Wade and Fred’s daughters, Holly O’Neal, and Kelly Bickford.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Jolene Barnhart.
A memorial service will be held Friday, December 10, 2021, at 2:30pm at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg, MD, with Pastor Carl Fulmor officiating. The family will receive friends from 1pm-2:30pm before the service.
A fellowship gathering will be held following the service at Cascade American Legion.
