Sharon Tamburello Obituary

Sharon L. Tamburello (Poole),74 slipped away quietly into the loving arms of Jesus February 18, 2024 at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown MD, where she was reunited with her husband of 49 years. Sharon was born Sept 30, 1949 in Frederick MD to George and Gladys Poole of Middletown, MD. She graduated from Middletown High and worked locally until she met and married Nicholas Tamburello. They lived in Bayshore NY for several years where two daughters were born, Eileen Keyser of Culpeper, VA (married to Calvin) and Cheryl Mulligan of Rocky Mount, VA (married to Chris). They decided to move back to Maryland where they bought land and Nick and her father built their home at which they resided until their deaths. Sharon went back to school for nursing, something she always wanted to pursue, after her children were older, and earned her degree as a registered nurse. She worked at Frederick Memorial Hospital and then at several practices for many doctors in the Frederick area, all of whom she greatly admired. Her jobs as a research nurse, where she was in charge of setting up and overseeing drug studies, and as a teacher/counselor to patients before and after orthopedic surgery were her favorite and were very challenging and fulfilling to her. After she retired, she and Nick enjoyed taking cross country trips to Alaska and visiting many state and National parks in their truck camper. She loved to travel and was up for any adventure. She and Nick had taken several cruises together and she traveled with her daughters on many weekend adventures including Philly, NY and Williamsburg. She also enjoyed doing things with her family and friends such as visiting other states, going to plays/movies, and just having lunch or playing games. Even after retiring, Sharon’s nursing degree continued to come into play as she helped care for her mother until her passing in 2017 and her husband who passed in 2019 after an extensive 5 year battle with cancer. After Nick's death, Sharon dedicated her life full time in service to others. She was a volunteer with Tabitha’s Table in Smithsburg and with Mt. Hope where she ministered to prisoners through mail-in Bible studies. She also volunteered for the Wolfsville Fire Department, the Wolfsville Ruritan and the Convoy of Hope. She crocheted hats for the homeless staying at the Reach Shelter and put together stockings for them every Christmas filled with practical things they needed. She kept new packs of socks in her car at all times to hand out to the homeless, as the homeless, the hungry and the forgotten always weighed heavily on her heart. She was also a member of the American Legion and Amvets women’s auxiliaries. Church was very important to Sharon. She was a member for many years of Brunswick Church of God and then became a member of Smithsburg Valley Church where she really felt fed by the Word of God through Bible Studies and the pastor’s sermons. She loved her church family and volunteered at many functions and events the church held. Sharon donated extensively to the Hope Center, K Love, St. Judes, Salvation Army, Prison Fellowship Center, Mt. Hope, Cedar Ridge and The Shriners. She donated to Our Daily Bread, purchasing devotionals to make sure the Word of God was distributed. Sharon was known to be a very Independent, intelligent, spirited woman with a heart for Jesus and her family. She loved to work in her gardens and enjoyed feeding her birds making her own suet and nectar for them. She loved to crochet, always making hats, gloves, scarves and other accessories for her daughters and fun cat toys for her grand kitties. She enjoyed traveling, reading, cooking, baking, going to wineries and trying out new restaurants. She was a selfless, loving person to all who knew her. Her daughters are going to miss their card games, adventures, wine tastings, and just laughing and being together as she was a great friend and wonderful mother who will leave a huge hole in their lives. She was truly a remarkable woman and will be missed by many, including her sister Patricia Rhoderick of Florida, brother George Poole 3rd and wife Junko of California, brothers in law Charles Tamburello of NY and Tom Tamburello and wife Pat of NJ, nieces Niki Dahl, Jodi Barnum, Gina Sacchetti, nephews Chuck Tamburello, Steven Tamburello, Tom Tamburello, and Sean Poole along with their spouses as well as many many friends including Janice Saul, Barb and Remig Jahrsdoerfer, Barbara and Dan Webb, Naomi Mullins and Donna Tamburello. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Nick, parents-in-law Salvatore and Rose Tamburello and brother-in-law Craig Rhoderick. A Celebration of Life will be held April 13 at Smithsburg Valley Church 12911 Bikle Rd.
