Shelby Jean Wangness (a.k.a little Iodine) age 78 of Thurmont, MD passed from this earth on February 10, 2024 surrounded by her family. Born on August 9, 1945 in Thurmont, MD, she was the wife of Robert Wangness for 58 years and the daughter of the late Norman and Agnes (Baker) Eyler.
Shelby graduated with the class of 1963 from Thurmont High School and was a member of Wellers United Methodist Church, Thurmont. She was an in-home daycare provider for 40 years, until her retirement in 2015. She dearly loved all the children she cared for. Shelby was an avid collector of dolls, baskets, old toys, decorations, anything that sparkled, and so on and so on. She loved going to auctions and shopping with friends and family. Shelby enjoyed snowmobiling, car shows, class of 1963 “get togethers” and attending all family and holiday functions.
Surviving are her children, Craig Wangness and wife Nicki and Shelly Toms and husband Mark. Grandchildren, Morgan, Bailie, Garrett, and Dylan. Great grandchild Wrenley. Brother Norman “Bud” Eyler and wife Nena and sister Norma “Kay” Fisher and husband Denny. Niece Brandi, nephew Dureck and great nephew Owen. Also remembered by dear friends Barbara and Jerry May and their family. She was preceded in death by brother Donald, grandparents and numerous uncles and aunts.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, February 17, 2024 at 12:30 PM at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, 12525 Bradbury Ave., Smithsburg, MD 21783, with Pastor Mark Eyler officiating. Interment will follow in Bethel Cemetery, Cascade, MD.
Family will receive friends Friday, February 16, from 6-8 at the funeral home.
