Shirley Marie (Souders) Hartle

Shirley Marie Hartle, 88, of Smithsburg, passed away Sunday, March 15th at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, MD.

Born March 16th, 1937, in Mt Lena, she was the daughter of the late Daniel Souders and Catherine Smith.

She is survived by daughters Kathy Cosens, of Hagerstown MD, and Penny Stanley , of Clear Spring, MD; Son Gregory Hartle, of Leitersburg, MD; Grandchildren, Cheryl Cosens, Beth Hartle, Natosha Miller, Erica Edwards, and Mike Hartle ; 8 great grandchildren, and 3 half siblings.

Preceding her in death are her late husband, Glenn Hartle ; Her daughter, Cheryl Hartle-Hoover ; Her grandson, Jeffrey Cosens Jr ; Her sister, Betty Smith, and her Fiancé, John Kirby.

Shirley enjoyed caring for members of her community, working as a GNA at several nursing homes in Washington County. In her free time she enjoyed going to the casino, and spending time with her kids and grandkids, who all knew her as “nanny”.

The family will host a Celebration of Life Service at J.L. Davis Funeral Home in Smithsburg, MD on Monday, March 23rd from 4-6 pm .
