Valerie King Toms, 78, of Hagerstown, MD passed away at Brookdale Assisted Living, on Thursday, January 9, 2025, in the arms of her daughter.
Born April 11, 1946, in Waynesboro, PA, she was the daughter of the late Thomas H. King and Valerie (Moore) King.
Valerie graduated from North Hagerstown High School and continued her education at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, graduating with a degree in Speech Therapy. She worked with children during her entire professional career. Her students loved to go see "Mrs. Toms" and she cherished the many stories they shared with her.
Her hobbies included cross stitching, bowling, and play cards. Many years were spent traveling to volleyball games, encouraging and supporting her youngest daughter. Valerie loved to travel to Georgia to visit her oldest daughter and create fun, loving memories. She also enjoyed traveling to the Outer Banks and spending time at the beach. Valerie was a generous woman at heart and deeply loved her family.
Valerie is survived by her two daughters, Emily (Tom) O'Brien of McDonough, GA and Rebecca (David) Kirkpatrick of Waynesboro, PA; granddaughters, Leah and Bailey Kirkpatrick; and her beloved cat, Mango.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Madeline Faith Kirkpatrick.
The family would like to give a special 'Thank You' to the ladies that cared for her while she was still able to live at home.
