William Edgar "Billy" Baer

William Edgar “Billy” Baer, 74, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away Thursday, February 4, 2021 at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown. Born November 3, 1946 in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Edgar Bywaters Baer and Madlyn Lorraine (Crider) Baer. Daddy Baer was full of life and was loved by everyone he met. He loved fishing with his dad, going to Ocean City every year with his family when we were young and enjoyed his Atlantic City, Las Vegas, Bahamas and Charlestown trips. He loved to play tip jars and scratch offs. He sure was a jokester and loved to tease everyone. He made friends wherever he went. He was the most loving and caring man you would ever meet. When he walked into a room, everyone would say “Here’s Billy”. His daughters and his grandchildren were his life. He also loved all animals. Billy served in the United States Air Force for 4 years and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He retired from Mack Trucks in 2011. Billy is survived by two daughters, Michelle Socks (Donald) and Kelly Baer, grandchildren, Donny, Samantha, Kody and Emily and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Amanda Baer Socks. Services will be held Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at 1:00pm at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg, MD, with Pastor Jeremy Kitchens officiating. The family will receive friends from 11am-1pm before the service. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.
