William Powell Obituary

William Earl Powell, 82, of Waynesboro, PA, passed away in the early morning on December 28, 2020 at Waynesboro Hospital. William was born September 8, 1938 and resided in Mont Alto, PA, until the mid-seventies. Upon Graduating high school, he served in the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S. Forrestal. He was then employed by Corning Glass of Greencastle, PA until his retirement. He served as treasurer at the Owl’s Club of Waynesboro and was a member of many other club’s in the area. He enjoyed traveling, bowling, dart league, motorcycling, golfing and the company of family and friends. He was loved and respected by all who knew him and will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor. William is survived by his sons, William E. Powell, Jr., Donald E. Powell, Richard A. Powell and Gerry L. Powell all of Waynesboro, daughter, Barbara J. Staley of Brockway, PA, grandsons, Jordan G. Staley and Scott A. Staley both of Waynesboro, granddaughter, Jennifer L. (Powell) Bricker of Waynesboro, great twin granddaughters, Kindre R. Wilson of Waynesboro and Kloe A. Wilson of San Antonio, TX, great granddaughter, Kylie M. Freeman and great grandson, Trenton A. Freeman both of Waynesboro, great grandson, Antonio Marie and great granddaughter, Jessica L. Morton both of KY, great grandson, Brayden C. Staley of Biglerville, PA, sisters, Carolyn Powell of Quincy, PA and Leah Hovis of Mont Alto, PA, brothers, Max E. Powell and Gerald L. Powell both of Waynesboro, James R. Powell of Quincy, PA, and Michael J. Powell of Mont Alto, PA, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Max H. Powell and Mildred (Kauffman) Powell, one infant sister, Linda K. Powell, wife, Joanne (Rhone) Powell, granddaughters, Abrial E. Benchoff of Brockway, PA, and Amber J. Chasse of Waynesboro, sister, Bonnie L. Davenport and brother, Edward L. Powell, Sr. of Saint Thomas, PA. It was William’s wishes to be cremated. Arrangements were handled by J.L.
